My Octopus Teacher - Movie Review Critics Score - 8 of 10 General Audience Score - 7 of 10 This film is one of the most surprising movies I've watched for the 2020 awards season. For the average viewer, they'll scroll on past this title in the Netflix queue time and again and never bother to give this fantastic piece of cinema a try. Don't be one of them. PROS - My Octopus Teacher is a documentary film about the surprising relationship of a man and creature. It follows the journey of Craig Foster, who’s inspired to get back into nature after his work producing films with African tribes. He begins swimming and snorkeling in a section of the Atlantic Ocean near his home and begins to film and document his findings. The underwater cinematography and video captured and displayed in this film are simply breathtaking. The beauty of the world he explores is a marvel, even if we eventually grow accustomed to the almost alien world he dives into each day. The real story kicks into g

The White Tiger - Movie Review

The White Tiger - Movie Review Critics Score - 8 of 10 General Audience Score - 7 of 10 The White Tiger is a film that takes us behind the scenes of working class India. It's a sobering look at life for so many people in a part of the world most of us will never get to experience firsthand. But unlike Lion or Slumdog Millionaire, The White Tiger wants to tell a darker story, one that doesn't have such a happy ending. Is this unsettling tale one worth telling? PROS - The White Tiger takes us through the rise of Balram, played by Adarsh Gourav, who is desperate to climb up the ranks of society and serve his masters with everything he has, no matter the costs. Balram becomes the servant of a young couple, Ashok and Pinky, and besides general cleaning, he drives them wherever they need to go. The acting by almost everyone in the film is very good but Adarsh Gourav steals the show and puts on a truly brilliant performance. As Balram works harder to get where he wants to go in the sc

Quo Vadis, Aida? - Movie Review Critics Score - 9 of 10 General Audience Score - 8 of 10 Quo Vadis, Aida? is quite possibly the best movie you’ve probably never heard of. Think of all the good and great movies you watched from 2020. This film is better than pretty much all of them, it’s in my top 3 of the year. Go watch it, it’s spectacular, I guarantee it. PROS - Quo Vadis, Aida? follows the story of Aida, I won’t include the actors names as most are Bosnian and Serbian and not only will you probably not know them, I don’t know what alphabet letters they use for me to type them. All you need to know is they’re all superb. Especially Aida, this is her story and she delivers one of the best performances of the year. The film is based on factual events and tells the story of a wife and mother that works for the UN as an interpreter during a humanitarian crisis. There is a government change taking place that the UN is seemingly powerless to stop. The new regime is promising peace and hand

News Of The World - Movie Review

News Of The World - Movie Review Critics Score - 7 of 10 General Audience Score - 7 of 10 News Of The World is being touted as one of the big dad movies of the year. Not difficult to see how a western film with Tom Hanks as the lead actor would catch that kind of tagline. But is News a great dad movie in the vein of Ford V Ferrari, or just a middle of the pack one? PROS - News Of The World follows the story of Tom Hanks, who plays Captain Jefferson Kidd, an aged civil war veteran who happens upon a young girl who speaks a native indian language. The girls name is Kiowa and is played by newcomer Helena Zengel, and she is truly spectacular in her debut role. The acting carried by Hanks and Zengel is excellent and the two have a very nice chemistry on screen together. Captain Kidd turns into a father figure of sorts as the two travel from town to town in search of the girls family, or at least willing parental figures. The outdoor visuals are standard western fare but the design of the ol
