Pieces Of A Woman is the latest release by Netflix in its race to get every possible Oscar nomination come awards season. It's a story of a home delivery gone wrong and the ensuing fallout and aftermath. But will you enjoy watching it?

PROS - This movie has a lot going on in the acting department. Most people in search of FANTASTIC performances will have to look no further than this, just the acting at work in this film make it a must watch movie for many. The direction is also solid and some good directional decisions are made at times, but there's simply not enough going on with the story and writing for him to make it work. More on that to come. But the movie has so much potential and so many interesting emotional beats that it hits on and would make for a really great piece of filmmaking, but it loses it's way the further it goes.

The birthing sequence is absolutely riveting, the first 25 minutes of this movie will captivate you with the best in cinema. The movie is also somewhat aesthetically pleasing, with some decent cinematography, camera work as well as some of the costumes on display. With all this being said, you'd think my rating would come in closer to a 7 or even a 6. Sadly, that's just not the case.

CONS - This movie falters almost immediately after the birthing sequence. As was mentioned, the director and actors elevate a very weak script. The overall story is choppy and uneven, some of the scenes are in complete disarray. This film could've easily cut 20-30 minutes off the runtime and the movie would've been better for it. Some of the dialogue is absolutely horrid, I was continually saying "What are they talking about?" or "Who says that?" or "That's a random thing to say." I must place almost the entirety of the problems with this movie with the screenwriting. Even some of the brilliantly acted monologues leave you wondering why those words were spoken. The plot is also very shaky and although it does make some interesting decisions, it offers very little to make the rationale of them worth it.

SUMMARY - This movie has some fantastic elements that certainly make it entertaining to watch for periods but in the end falls short of being great or even really good. It may improve in my estimation upon further viewings but for now I cannot think of Pieces Of A Woman in much of a positive light. Watch it, expect great things for pieces but not the whole.
