Is the spectrum of animated cinema, there's a wide variety of films that achieve the highest levels of filmmaking. They come around every so often and demand to be considered along with the live action counterparts in the cinematic universe. Is Wolfwalkers among them?

PROS - This movie is visually stunning in virtually every moment of every frame it presents to us on screen. To look at this movie is to view a work of art and revel in its beauty. The visuals are by far the most impressive of all the aspects of the film but several others really help to elevate this film as well. The music and soundtrack are really great at working alongside the visuals of the film. The screenwriting and overall storytelling is really solid but there are some issues with the pacing of the film I'll get into later. But the characters are well developed, the story is well rounded and really picks up steam into the 2nd act and runs through the end of the film.

There's so much here for kids and adults alike to enjoy, I've rated this movie an 8 for critics and general audiences alike. All the separate elements of the movie really fit together well and bring up it's overall enjoyableness. But among the all time greats of animated film, I just can't put this film up that high. Despite that it's easily right up near Soul as the best animated film of 2020.

CONS - This movie is difficult to disengage from, the visuals are stunning and it's easy to get lost in them the first few minutes of the movie. After the fantastic animation sinks in and the astonishment wears off, the story slows down a bit and I almost fell asleep a half hour in. If they had trimmed off 5 to 10 minutes of the first act this film could've really cut off some excess scenes and then really dove headfirst into the main story of the wolfwalker girls and the adventures they enjoy. This movie is really great, I simply can't put it into the top echelon of animated feature films.

SUMMARY - This is a movie I'll watch with my children for years to come. It's really fun, it's beautiful visuals will wash over you and carry you away on this adventure. The music and engrossing story will take you to a different world and can captivate anybody. Make it a point to get Apple TV, even if it's just a free trial and check out this film. This run with the wolves is completely worth it.
